2009 John W. Doubenmier and Public Service Awards Luncheon

Each year, since 1963, the Kern County Chapter of ASPA has presented the John W. Doubenmier Award and the Public Service Award for distinguished service in the field of public administration. These awards are presented annually to individuals who have demonstrated excellence in public service, either over the past year (Doubenmier) or over a lifetime (Public Service).

The Kern County ASPA Chapter has chosen to honor former Kern County CAO Ron Errea with this year's Doubenmier Award for his public service accomplishments over the prior year, and Bernard C. Barmann, Sr., former Kern County Counsel, will be honored with the Public Service Award for a lifetime of work.

Errea and Barmann will be presented with the awards at 11:30 on Thursday, May 28, 2009. The presentation will take place at the:
Petroleum Club 2nd Floor Ballroom
Stockdale Tower
5060 California Avenue,
Bakersfield, CA 93309.

Visit the luncheon page and sign up to attend the presentating of the awards for these two deserving individuals.

History

Each year since 1963, Bakersfield’s ASPA chapter has recognized an outstanding public administrator in honor of John W. Doubenmier, who became administrator at Kern General Hospital in 1948 when the hospital was in complete disarray. His leadership turned it around and he was widely admired until his untimely death in the early 1960s. He was considered quite progressive during a very conservative time in public administration.

Each year Bakersfield ASPA also bestows its Public Service Award, which acknowledges a lifetime of service by an individual administrator. We celebrate these accomplishments in May to coincide with Public Service Month.
